Cabozantinib is an advanced oral drug which is recommended in the management of Kidney and Liver Cancers. Technically they are referred as renal cell carcinoma (RCC) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Medullary thyroid cancer is another indication for which Cabozantinib is prescribed. Cometriq and Cabometyx are the two trade names for this drug. These brand names are distinguished based on the promoting company’s geographical operations. Exelixis Inc is the company that had developed Cabozantinib and gained FDA approval in 2012. The initial approval was for medullary thyroid cancer.
In 2016, the approval was expanded for the treatment of RCC. This is again specific to the second line therapy.
Cabometyx in India is often searched for its access and availability. There are instances patients and consultants specifically look for Cometriq in India. However, it should be noted that both the brands are from the same company. But, it can’t be assumed that there may not be any key difference apart from the commercial access. The formulations are reported to be different for the two different brands.
